Mont. lake eyed for cutthroat restoration

Too bad that state fish agencies, like Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, even have to be in the restoration business. And the fact that they are says a hell of a lot for the impact of human activities on the world of Wild Nature. I hope this restoration works, as should all conservationists. But it says a whyole lot on the negative side that things have gotten so bad that we even have to think "restoration."

The senator is Max Baucus. I wish him luck in the endeavor this article focuses on, but I can't help but wonder where he was on a lot of other public land issues - things that Frank Church would have fought for and won.

Hunters kill 250 Bison moving out of Yellowstone

The existence of "political" boundaries - like the line between this town and that one - mean nothing to North American wildlife. Mammals like American Bison are guided by their ecological needs, not whether the ground they set foot on is private ranch land, national forest land, national park land, etc. The failure of those in power to recognize this basic bit of ecology is a national disgrace. As is the killing of even one of the genetically pure American Bison that are Yellowstone National Park ambassadors. Oh, and "harvesting" is the same as "killing." Rocky Mountain Front Heritage Act reintroduced in Congress

Montana Sen. Max Baucus rolled out the happy dollar data for the reporter who crafted this article. I cringe, though, when I read the phrase "motorized access" or such has been included in pending legislation. No difference here.
